The rich young man was a good example of your teaching. He told Jesus that he had done all that he said, and wanted to know what he still lacked. Jesus replied, Go sell all you have and come follow me.. Sadly he hung his head and walked away, because as you so eloquently stated, he put his trust in the idol god of money...

My prayer is that some how believers will grasp on to this concept and cling to God, the only one who deserve our worship..

Because we grew up poor, I learned to have lived with nothing and if I have something, I don't obsess over it since I know they're just stuff which will be gone or vanish or never last----so I know that. I don't have any idols. I always put my trust in God.....my Mom taught us that since we were kids, even when I was still a Catholic.

This is one post which makes you stop and think if we are truly worshiping God or or we worshiping Him for what He can give us? It is so easy to get caught up in the "things" of this world. It is so easy to try to keep up with the Jones. What we need to do is seek a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God who provides all! All that we have belongs to God.

Hi Lori,

Unfortunately the system of this and most other western countries, (Capitalism) is a form of idolatry. The worship or following of something other than God has a way of creeping up on you, especially if you are uninformed. How many times have we all allowed ourselves to make a priority of something other than Our Heavenly Father? It may not be intentional or understood... but still it happens. American Idol, fan clubs, or your favorite stars; sounds innocent, but is it. What message do we send to the coming generation, what habits do we help establish that will be even harder to overcome?

Deuteronomy 29:18 (NIV)
Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.

Consider this passage the next time you skip Church because it’s “Super Bowl Sunday.” No matter how small or subtle it is, any rejection of Christ is sin. Jesus had good reason to plead our case.
